REPORT OF WORKSHOP ON MEMORIAL DRAFTING

27th & 28th September, 2019

On 27th and 28th September, 2019, a Workshop on Memorial Drafting was organized by the Moot Court Association of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur for the BA/BBA LL.B. students. The venue for the workshop was the Moot Court hall of SLS, Nagpur. The two day workshop was conducted in three sessions, two sessions on the first day and one session on the second day. The timings for the workshop were 10 AM to 4 PM. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Rangam Sharma. He is a corporate lawyer based out of Bengaluru. He is currently working with J. Sagar Associates and his areas of practice include private equity, venture capital, employment and emerging technologies. The Workshop began with the felicitation of the resource person and the Welcome address which was delivered by Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Director, SLS, Nagpur.

Mr. Rangam Sharma elaborately discussed the meaning, role and importance of memorial drafting. He enunciated the importance of fact sheet and emphasized on how to form issues from the facts sheets and present it in the Moot Court. In the second session he emphasized on how to present the issue in front of the judge in a Moot Court. He asked the students not to assume anything and asked them to build the entire memorial only from the facts mentioned in the fact sheet. On the second day the resource person asked the students to form 5 groups and gave each group a case on which they were asked to form their own issues and argue. This practical learning made students understand the entire procedure of memorial drafting in a better way.

The workshop concluded with the doubt solving session, where the resource person entertained the queries of inquisitive law students and answered them to their satisfaction.
