"Investigating the Impact of Social Media on Mental Health Due to Inadequate Security of Data on Social Media"

Data security has become a growing concern in an era where social media plays a central role in our daily lives. How do social media data breaches and privacy vulnerabilities impact our mental well-being? What measures can we take to safeguard ourselves? Are some issues addressed on 11 April 2025 from 2:00 P.M.- 4:00 P.M.? The theme was "Investigating the Impact of Social Media on Mental Health Due to Inadequate Security of Data on Social Media”. The Panel Members for the session were. Ms. Anushka Karira - Counsellor and Psychotherapist Adv. Rudrakshi Mendhe is an advocate and psychologist, Prof. Karun Sanjaya is a professor of cyber laws, and Ms. Padmza Bain is a mental health ambassador at SLS.

The panel discussion started with a welcome address from Dr. Deepti Khubalkar, Deputy Director of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur. While addressing the issue, she thanked the panel members for discussing the subject, which is relevant and essential for students. She emphasised the importance of knowing the distinctions in physical and mental health right from the initial years of technology grappling with human life. She also thanked the participants for attending the Panel Discussion.

All the panellists discussed various dimensions of data privacy, social media, its vulnerability, and how they affect students' mental health, especially people in general. Ms Anushka Karira discussed various case studies from her counselling sessions and suggested concentrating on basic amenities of nature and trying to avoid electronic gadgets as much as possible. She shared his traits for preparing and writing journals for personal expression and suggested that students be their best friends, express their difficulties, and share with parents and peers. Prof. Karun Sanjaya discussed the importance of choosing the right platforms and bringing restrictions on the use of social media platforms. He discussed the legal and personal entanglements that follow the prolonged usage of social media platforms and effortlessly and effectively discussed the legal implications of a data privacy breach. Ms Padmaza Bain, as a student representative and SIU Ambassador of Mental Health, represented the students' perspective and shared PFA formulation Psychological First Aid and how they can help each other as students in need of mental health difficulties and opined on various aspects of data privacy breach and social media platforms.

Dr Aarti Mohan Kalnawat, faculty & Nodal Officer of Gender Champion, SLS, Nagpur, coordinated the program, and Ms Abhilasha Sharma and Mr Karan Singh, the Gender Champions, SLS, Nagpur, moderated the session and proposed a vote of thanks. Both of them worked hard to ensure the success of the Programme. It was a fruitful discussion that dissected the problem and provided some simple solutions for practice.
