A Moot Court is like practicing for the real court, where students are made to participate in the staged court proceedings that are related to a fictitious dispute between parties. Mostly, moot courts are conducted in law teaching institutions where the students are expected to pursue their careers in the field of law as lawyers, arbitrators and judges; hence they’re made to practice to be trained for future along with development of the required skills.
Moot Court Association: Mooting as an activity aims to inculcate and improve the research, presentation and line of reasoning into students so as to equip the budding pleaders with all the court room etiquettes, research experience and advocacy skills. Hence, this learning needs to be channelized which is done by having Moot Court Association. The Association is consisting of students as President, Vice President, Secretary, treasurer, Joint Secretary, etc. The whole Association works very hard for the overall smooth conduction of Moot Court activity. Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur has a fully air- conditioned, tech-acoustic, and 220 capacity Moot Court Hall equipped with proper judicial settings which is utilized for intra as well as national Moot Court Competition. It is obligatory for the 1st year students to participate in internal moot court competitions and thereafter for the internal selection for participating in competitions organized by other institutions and Universities.
The presentation and reasoning skills of students are screened during the intra college Moot Court Competition and they are notified about the areas of improvements on a regular basis. It helps the law students in perfecting their legal diagnostic, research, analytical and writing skills that molding-evolving lawyers and advocates must have. By participating in this process, they become more comfortable arguing in front of judges and a more confident public speaker.
