Legal Aid Centre
The Legal Aid Centre of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Nagpur, was inaugurated on 12th October 2019. The inauguration was graced by Hon’ble Justice Shri Sunil B. Shukre, Judge of the Bombay High Court, Nagpur Bench, in the presence of Hon’ble Shri A. J. Mantri, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Nagpur; Shri S. M. Kale, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Nagpur; Prof. (Dr.) Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur; and Dr. Deepti Khubalkar, In- charge of the Legal Aid Centre.
The establishment of the Legal Aid Centre at Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, aligns with the mission of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) to fulfil its ‘Institutional Social Responsibility’.
Law and society function in close proximity—law exists for society, and without law, society would be disorganized. The Legal Aid Centre at Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, has been established with the following aims and objectives:
• To make students more sensitive to various legal issues faced by society.
• To enhance their understanding of moral duties towards society, thereby instilling a sense of responsibility in nation-building.
• To provide legal aid through human, knowledge, and infrastructural resources to those in need.
With these aims and objectives, the Legal Aid Centre of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, actively works in three areas: Community Services and Legal Awareness, Legal Literacy, and Core Legal Aid.
From 2023 to 2025, the Legal Aid Centre at Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, is also collaborating with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, under the Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono Legal Services) programme. This initiative connects law students with pro bono advocates to strengthen the delivery of legal aid services. It reinforces the institution’s commitment to ensuring access to justice and nurturing socially responsible legal professionals.
