Diplomats' Kaleidoscope 2.0 Report
Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), successfully organized the “Diplomats’ Kaleidoscope” Competition on 1st March 2026. The event was conceptualized as an academic simulation to provide students with practical exposure to international law, diplomacy, and treaty negotiation. It aimed to enhance participants’ analytical abilities, communication skills, and understanding of global legal frameworks.

Event Report: Diplomats’ Kaleidoscope Competition

The competition was based on a detailed and thought-provoking proposition that revolved around an ongoing conflict between the State of Velkarya and the Republic of Norvessia, leading to a serious humanitarian crisis and mass displacement of civilians into the Federation of Estovar. The proposition highlighted key issues such as violations of international humanitarian law, refugee protection, state responsibility, and the challenges faced by nations in balancing legal obligations with domestic concerns.

Participants were assigned the roles of representatives of the concerned nations and were required to engage in structured diplomatic discussions. The central objective of the competition was to negotiate and draft a Tripartite Convention on Security, Displacement, and Post-Conflict Reconstruction. This required participants to carefully consider multiple perspectives and propose solutions that were both legally sound and practically feasible.

An important feature of the competition was its two-stage structure, which tested both prior preparation and on-the-spot performance. Participants were initially required to collaboratively draft and submit a treaty in advance, based on their understanding of the proposition. Subsequently, during the competition, they were grouped with other participants and required to negotiate and draft a fresh treaty in real time in the presence of the judges. This format ensured that participants demonstrated not only research and drafting skills but also adaptability, teamwork, and spontaneous problem-solving abilities.

The competition witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from students, reflecting their keen interest in international law and policy-making. Participants demonstrated a strong understanding of the subject matter and engaged in meaningful discussions on complex issues such as refugee welfare, economic integration, reparations, and treaty enforcement. The level of preparation and involvement was commendable, and the event created a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment.

The judging panel consisted of experienced and knowledgeable judges who played an important role in ensuring the quality and fairness of the competition. The judges carefully evaluated the participants on various parameters, including clarity of arguments, legal reasoning, negotiation skills, and overall presentation. Their feedback was constructive and insightful, which further contributed to the learning experience of the participants.

At the conclusion of the competition, winners were announced and awarded cash prizes along with certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance. The details of the winners are as follows:

  1. Best Diplomat: Shanmayie Natchiyar M
  2. Best Treaty (TC 3): Jamalapuram Srinija, Netra Singh, Anannya Jamwal
  3. Best Team (TC 5): Venkat Ranga Rao Karuturi, Subramanyam Dittakavi, Niranjan Pillai

These recognitions served as an encouragement for participants and added to the competitive spirit of the event.

The event was conducted in a well-organized and structured manner, ensuring smooth coordination and effective time management. It provided participants with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting and gain a deeper understanding of real-world legal challenges.

Overall, the Diplomats’ Kaleidoscope Competition was a highly successful and enriching event. It not only strengthened the participants’ skills in research, analysis, and communication but also gave them valuable exposure to the complexities of international negotiations and treaty-making. The competition stands as a meaningful initiative towards promoting academic excellence and practical learning among students.
