The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Sukhada Dhote, a student member of SCCLS, who introduced the esteemed Resource Person, Dr. Ravishankar Mor, Principal of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law, RTMNU, Nagpur. She emphasized the critical importance of the topic and its relevance in the context of India's democratic and legal development.
As a token of appreciation for his presence and insights, Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Director of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, felicitated Dr. Mor with a memento and a shawl.
The event also featured a prize distribution ceremony recognizing the winners of the Essay Writing Competition held on 27th January 2025, as part of the Republic Day celebrations. The prizes were awarded by the Resource Person.

Following the Prize Distribution, Dr. Ravishankar Mor lecture, delivered a profound and engaging lecture on the historical context, judicial reasoning, and long-term significance of the Kesavananda Bharati judgment. He elaborated on how the Basic Structure Doctrine emerged as a vital tool in preserving the democratic and constitutional ethos of India, particularly by placing meaningful limitations on Parliament’s power to amend the Constitution.
Total 198 first - year students attended the session with great enthusiasm, making the event not merely a lecture but a platform for meaningful academic exchange. The event was aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, underlining the importance of an independent judiciary and robust legal institutions in upholding democratic values.
Dr. Mor’s engaging style and deep subject knowledge strongly resonated with the students, sparking curiosity and thoughtful questions during the Q&A session. Discussions extended to the application of the Basic Structure Doctrine in recent Supreme Court rulings, the concept of constitutional morality, and the balance of power between legislative and judicial branches.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Vrishty Sah, a student member of SCCLS, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the speaker, dignitaries, faculty members, and student participants. She also acknowledged the visionary leadership of Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Director and Dr. Deepti Khubalkar, Deputy Director for their continuous encouragement and support.
Special Appreciation was extended to Prof. Parth Sharma, Faculty In-Charge of SCCLS, for coordinating and executing the event with remarkable dedication. The success of the event was made possible through the collective efforts of the SCCLS Organizing Committee members, who played a vital role in the planning which ensured the smooth conduct of the lecture.
Thanks were also extended to the IT Department for their efficient technical assistance throughout the event. The session concluded on an inspiring, motivating students to delve deeper into the values and principles of the Indian Constitution and fostering a greater appreciation for judicial innovation and constitutional safeguarding.
