The Symbiosis Centre for Constitutional Law Studies (SCCLS) organized the Guest Lecture on the theme “Justice: Social and Economic under the Constitution of India” on 17th February 2026 at 10:30 A.M. at the Moot Court Hall, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur. The event was conducted in offline mode as an in-house academic activity and was open to all the 1st Year B.A/BBA.LL.B. students of the institution. Total 188 first-year students attended the session with great enthusiasm, making the event not merely a lecture but a platform for meaningful academic exchange. The event was aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education aiming to "ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all" and 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, underlining the importance of an independent judiciary and robust legal institutions in upholding democratic values.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Bhoomi Belani, Student Member, SCCLS. In her introductory remarks, she highlighted the distinguished judicial career of the Hon’ble resource person and contextualized the theme of the lecture within the broader constitutional framework of justice under the Preamble of the Constitution of India.
This was followed by an welsome address by Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, who expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Hon’ble Justice and emphasized the importance of engaging with judicial luminaries to deepen students’ understanding of constitutional values. As a token of gratitude and respect, Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari felicitated the Hon’ble Justice with a memento and a shawl in recognition of his invaluable contribution to legal education and judicial discourse.
The highlight of the event was the insightful and intellectually enriching lecture delivered by Hon’ble Justice R.C. Chavan. The lecture focused on the constitutional vision of Social and Economic Justice and its judicial interpretation through case law and courtroom experiences. The lecture attracted active participation and provided a platform for students in the First Year to simplify the complexities of Constitutional Law in the area of Justice, specifically in the Social and Economic context.
The event successfully achieved its objectives by enhancing participants' understanding of the Constitutional Justice. It reinforced the importance of constitutional values and judicial reasoning in legal education, specifically by enhancing their understanding of Justice as a practical concept.
The session concluded at 12:00 P.M. with a formal vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Deepti Kubalkar, Deputy Director, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur. She expressed sincere appreciation to the Hon’ble Justice Chavan for his time and scholarly insights, and thanked the organizing team and participants for their contributions to the event's success.
Special Appreciation was extended to Dr. Anushree Mukte, Faculty In-charge, for her constant guidance and supervision along with faculty members, administrative staff, IT Department and the student members of the SCCLS whose coordinated efforts ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the lecture.
The session concluded on an inspiring, motivating students to delve deeper into the values and principles of the Indian Constitution and fostering a greater appreciation for judicial innovation and constitutional safeguarding. The Guest Lecture stood as a meaningful academic engagement that strengthened constitutional literacy, encouraged critical reflection on justice, and inspired young law students to uphold the transformative vision of the Constitution of India.
