Happenings
On 3rd February 2026, the Dramatics Society of Symbiosis Law School Nagpur successfully hosted a compelling theatrical performance titled “VERDICT OF THE VICES” This 40-minute production masterfully addressed the seven deadly sins. The protagonist an advocate along with 6 different characters represented each sin. Each character occupied a professional role that contributed to the justice delivery system. Through these narratives, the play examined how personal ambition, ego, greed, desire, apathy and moral compromise influence supposedly objective legal processes.
The narrative revolved around an advocate as the central protagonist, accompanied by six distinct characters, each embodying one of the deadly sins. These characters were portrayed as professionals occupying key roles within the legal and institutional framework. Through their individual stories, the play examined how personal ambition, ego, greed, desire, apathy, and moral compromise subtly yet significantly influence systems that are assumed to function objectively and impartially.
Rather than depicting law as a detached and mechanical institution, the play emphasizes that justice is ultimately shaped by human choices made within structured systems. As the story progressed, the boundary between personal morality and professional duty gradually blurred, compelling the audience to reflect on accountability within the justice system.
PERFORMANCE BREAKDOWN
Scene I –
The play opened with powerful monologue by the protagonist advocate, who reflected on the collective role individuals play in shaping society and how personal decisions whether intentional or inadvertent, have far-reaching consequences. The monologue set the tone by questioning how ordinary individuals, through flawed judgment, may unknowingly become sinners.

Scene II – Sloth
The second scene was set inside a metro train, with an announcement declaring the arrival at the station named “Sloth.” The first sinner, Dr. Reese, exits the metro to confess her crime to the advocate. It is revealed that Dr. Reese’s negligence resulted in the death of a child. Despite the gravity of the offense, Advocate Lawrence agrees to represent her, assuring her assistance in escaping legal consequences. The scene highlights professional apathy and moral disengagement.

Scene III – Greed
The third scene continues within the metro, where the next station is announced as “Greed.” Journalist Evelyn disembarks and reveals her wrongdoing—breach of privacy and defamation—committed solely to secure sensational headlines and higher TRP ratings. Through manipulation and charm, Evelyn gains the advocate’s trust and successfully evades accountability, exposing how greed distorts ethical journalism.

Scene IV – Envy
Scene four introduces the sin of Envy. Erica, a globally celebrated artist with chart-topping albums, finds herself threatened by the rise of an upcoming musician. Consumed by jealousy and fear of losing relevance, she abets the young artist to commit suicide, which he ultimately does. Seeking legal protection, she approaches the advocate, who accepts her case with an underlying motive of gaining publicity and fame, thereby exposing moral corruption on both sides.

Scene V – Wrath
The fifth scene represents Wrath, portrayed through the character of a police inspector who kills a prisoner in an attempt to extract a confession. The scene highlights severe violations of legal procedures, including denial of medical examination and the use of force to obtain a confession. It underscores the dangers of unchecked authority and rage within law enforcement.

Scene VI – Gluttony
The sixth scene depicts the sin of Gluttony, symbolizing the insatiable desire for excess—be it wealth or power. This sin is represented by a renowned builder, Ms. Blair Hart, whose pursuit of unchecked profit reflects exploitation and moral excess within the system.

Scene VII – Lust
Unveils the Sinner—a notorious local criminal who murders not just for passion or notoriety, but to instill terror deep within the hearts of the people. A killer for whom killing is an art.

Scene VIII –
The reveal of the final sin of pride, that is committed by none other than the advocate herself. A hint of pride is seen by the audience in every scene but reveal finally takes place when the purple spotlight, the color that represents pride, is focused on the advocate. The act ends with a powerful monologue delivered by the advocate that mentions how she will easily save every sinner.
A monologue was also performed right after the advocates – to give the audience more clarity about each sin.
